TMSCN is mainly used in cyanation reactions in organic synthesis. It can react with substrates such as acyl halides, acid anhydrides, aldehydes, and ketones to introduce cyano groups (-CN) into organic molecules. TMSCN can also be used in the synthesis of nitrile precursors of α-amino acids and cyanohydrin compounds. Additionally, it can be used in the formation and transformation of α-cyano-substituted silyl enol ethers, as well as the activation and transformation of carboxyl groups, thus having a wide range of applications.
【Introduction】
TMSCN, whose full name is Trimethylsilyl cyanide (CAS: 7677-24-9), is a commonly used cyanation reagent. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with the chemical formula (CH₃)₃SiCN, has a bitter almond odor, and is soluble in most organic solvents such as dichloromethane and chloroform; it is flammable and produces highly toxic gases when burned. It needs to be stored in a sealed container under the protection of dry nitrogen or other inert gases, and should avoid contact with water, acids, alkalis, and protic solvents.
Compared with traditional cyanation reagents such as sodium cyanide and hydrogen cyanide, TMSCN has the advantages of high spatial selectivity, low toxicity, mild usage conditions, and high conversion rate. It is particularly suitable for the synthesis of products such as pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals, and using it as a molecular building material is safer and more effective.
