Product Description

MMB (3-Mercapto-3-methyl-1-butanol) is a high-impact organosulfur flavor ingredient with an extremely low odor threshold. In higher dilutions it delivers powerful meaty, beef-juice and gravy notes essential for savory and roasted profiles; at trace levels (around 0.02 ppm) it contributes natural grapefruit and tropical nuances valued in citrus, passion-fruit and beverage applications.

XG Chem supplies MMB as neat material (≥98%, FEMA GRAS) and as ready-to-use dilutions in propylene glycol or triacetin, with COA issued for every batch and samples available for flavorist evaluation.

Applications

  • Savory flavors – key contributor of meaty, beef-juice, gravy and roasted notes for seasonings, soups and snack foods

  • Beverages & citrus profiles – trace-level grapefruit, passion-fruit and tropical nuances (typically 0.01–0.05 ppm)

  • Coffee & roasted flavors – sulfury nuance found naturally in coffee aromas

  • Compounded flavors – dosing per applicable local regulations (e.g., FEMA usage levels 0.01–0.5 mg/kg depending on food category)

Forms & Packaging

  • Neat (≥98%): 1 kg / 5 kg aluminum bottles or fluorinated HDPE bottles; 25 kg drums

  • Dilutions (1% / 10% in propylene glycol or triacetin): easier dosing and more stable handling — recommended for flavor houses; packed in 25 kg pails or drums

  • All packaging nitrogen-blanketed and tightly sealed

Storage & Handling

  • Store at 2 – 8 °C, protected from light and air — thiols slowly oxidize to disulfides on exposure, so keep containers unopened until use

  • Strong odor: handle in well-ventilated areas with appropriate PPE; keep away from oxidizers

  • Use dilutions where possible for safer, cleaner weighing at trace dosage levels

Why XG Chem

  • Neat and dilution forms with flexible purity and packaging

  • COA with every batch; consistent quality batch to batch

  • Small-quantity support for flavor creation and sample evaluation

  • Dedicated support on specification matching and batch data verification
