Diethylzinc (DEZ) (CAS 557-20-0)

Synonyms: DEZ; Zinc diethyl; Zinc ethyl

CAS No.: 557-20-0

EINECS No.: 209-161-3

Molecular Formula: C₄H₁₀Zn

Molecular Weight: 123.51

Product Description

Diethylzinc (DEZ) is a highly reactive organozinc compound, supplied as a colorless pyrophoric liquid — either neat (high purity) or as a standard solution in hexane, heptane or toluene. It is a key zinc precursor for metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), a p-type doping agent for III–V compound semiconductors, an efficient co-catalyst in Ziegler–Natta and coordination polymerization, and a versatile organozinc reagent in organic synthesis.

XG Chem supplies diethylzinc in research to commercial quantities, packed under inert gas with full dangerous-goods documentation. Electronic-grade material with ICP-MS metallic impurity data (COA per batch) is available on request.

Forms & Specifications

Form

Specification

Typical Packing

Neat diethylzinc

2N / 3N / 4N / 6N — 99% / 99.9% / 99.99% / 99.9999%

Sealed stainless-steel cylinder / ampoule, under inert gas

Solution in hexane

15 ± 0.5 wt % (other concentrations available)

Sealed bottle / 25 L drum, nitrogen-blanketed

Solution in toluene / heptane

per agreed specification

Sealed bottle / drum, nitrogen-blanketed

Every batch is supplied with a COA; metallic impurity analysis by ICP-MS is provided for electronic-grade material. Samples for lab evaluation are available.

Applications

  • MOCVD / ALD precursor – zinc source for ZnSe, ZnO, CdTe and other II–VI thin films in optoelectronics

  • Semiconductor doping – p-type dopant for GaAs, InGaP and III–V compound semiconductor epitaxy

  • Polymerization catalyst – co-catalyst in Ziegler–Natta and coordination polymerization systems

  • Organic synthesis – organozinc reagent for C–C bond formation and asymmetric additions to carbonyls

  • Nanomaterials – precursor for ZnO nanoparticles and functional nanomaterial synthesis

Packaging, Storage & Transport

  • Pyrophoric — ignites spontaneously on contact with air. All packagings are inert-gas sealed; handle only by trained personnel under nitrogen/argon with proper equipment

  • Sealed stainless-steel cylinders, ampoules, Schlenk-type bottles or nitrogen-blanketed drums depending on form and quantity

  • Store in a cool, dark, dry place away from oxidizers, water and heat sources

  • Transported as UN 2845, Diethylzinc, Class 4.2, Packing Group I through licensed dangerous-goods forwarders. DG documentation (MSDS, DG declaration) is provided with every shipment

Why XG Chem
